ARTIST STATEMENT
My creative process is deeply intuitive. Each painting begins in stillness, as I allow inspiration to surface organically—an image slowly revealing itself over days of quiet observation. As I work, that vision evolves through multiple layers, shifting and maturing with every brushstroke.
My work is abstract, but it carries more than just form and color. As an energy healer, I infuse each piece with healing frequencies intended to uplift and soothe. Rather than focusing on a defined subject, I invite you to feel the energy—let the tones and textures speak to you.
The color palette is intentionally warm and radiant, designed to illuminate your space and elevate your mood. These works are vessels: for light, for memory, and for personal interpretation. I hope each viewer discovers something uniquely their own.
BIO
Born in Reykjavik, Iceland, and raised in Sweden and Germany, Selma Karlsdottir is an artist whose work is deeply rooted in exploration—of color, texture, movement, and emotion. Her diverse artistic background spans theatre tailoring, metal craft, jewellery design, painting across multiple mediums, photography, web design, and art history. Holding a cum laude degree in Interior Design from Istituto Marangoni, Selma has lived in seven different European countries, each contributing to the nuanced layers of her artistic vision.
Artistic Style
Selma’s work merges abstraction with realism, allowing fluid forms and intricate textures to shape a visual dialogue between chaos and harmony. She is deeply influenced by ascension meditations and the Akashic Records, channeling these inspirations into compositions that evoke both contemplation and transcendence. Her choice of materials—acrylics, spray paint, and gold leaf—enhances the depth and luminosity of her work, with gold often serving as a beacon of enlightenment and significance. Inspired by the dramatic interplay of light and shadow in Caravaggio's work, she harnesses contrast to create immersive, emotionally resonant pieces that invite viewers into an introspective journey.
Artistic Journey
Creativity has been an intrinsic part of Selma’s life since childhood, nurtured by a family passionate about artistic expression. Encouraged by a dedicated mentor during her teenage years, she refined her craft and earned recognition for her artistic achievements. Though she spent over a decade working as an interior designer in London, her devotion to fine arts remained unwavering. Recently, she embraced a new chapter in Spain, immersing herself fully in her artistry, deepening her exploration of movement, material interplay, and the emotional landscapes her work seeks to evoke.
